One of the most common questions we get, whether from a traveller or the agent planning on their behalf, is some version of: "realistically, what does this cost?" Most pricing you'll find online is either a vague "starting from" figure designed to get a click, or a number so specific it assumes a particular season, hotel, and itinerary that may not match what you actually want. Here's a more honest breakdown.
Return economy flights from major Indian cities (Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru) to Australia's east coast typically range from roughly AUD 900 to AUD 1,800 per person, depending on season, airline, and how far in advance you book. Peak periods -- December-January and around Diwali -- sit at the higher end. Booking 4-6 months ahead generally secures meaningfully better fares than booking 6-8 weeks out.
Indian passport holders travel on the Visitor visa (Subclass 600) -- there's no ETA or eVisitor shortcut available. Visa application fees were revised upward as of 1 July 2026, so it's worth checking the current fee at the time of application rather than relying on last year's figure. Our Visa Information guide covers the full document checklist.
Sydney and Melbourne generally sit at the higher end of each tier; Gold Coast and Cairns are usually somewhat more affordable for comparable quality.
Budget roughly AUD 80-150 per person per day for meals (more if dining at higher-end restaurants regularly), and AUD 100-250 per day for activities and local transport, depending on how many paid experiences (reef tours, wildlife parks, scenic flights) are included versus free sightseeing.
For a comfortable-tier 10-night trip covering Sydney, Melbourne, Cairns, and Gold Coast for two people -- flights, mid-range accommodation, a handful of paid experiences (reef day, Blue Mountains tour, wildlife park), and reasonable daily spend -- total costs typically land somewhere in the AUD 6,000-9,000 range for the couple, excluding shopping and any exceptionally high-end additions. Family groups and larger parties change this math considerably, usually favourably per person once private transfers and group activities are shared.
Generic packages advertise a headline number and then add costs later -- resort fees, "optional" activities that turn out to be essential, transfers not actually included. When we build an itinerary, everything quoted is everything included, so the number you see is the number your client pays. If you're an agent putting together a proposal, that's the difference between a client trusting the number and a client feeling nickel-and-dimed once they arrive.
