Australia’s best beaches for 2021 have been revealed, with an unusual contender making the top 10 for the first time. Complied by Tourism Australia’s below are list of top 20 beaches in Australia. Here’s the full list.
- Cabarita, NSW – Cabarita Beach near Byron Bay, trumped the more well-known NSW spots of Bondi Beach and Manly Beach to be named Australia’s number one. It’s also known for the luxury hotel, Halcyon House, that is consistently featured as one of Australia’s top hotels
- Currumbin Beach, Queensland – Tucked away from the chaos of the Gold Coast is Currumbin Beach, a tranquil spot known for its postcard-pretty waters and perfect white sands
- Minnamurra, NSW – The secluded Mystics Beach, also known as Minnamurra Beach, is a crowd-free surf beach in Kiama, just a two-hour drive from Sydney
- Maria Island, TAS – Only accessible via ferry is the peaceful Riedle Bay on Maria Island, home to a thriving wildlife sanctuary, historic ruins and a perfect shoreline
- Cape Tribulation, Queensland – Two hours north of Cairns, this UNESCO World Heritage-listed site is where the Daintree Rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef
- Brighton Beach, Victoria – Defined by a row of 82 vibrant bathing boxes, Melbourne’s famous Brighton Beach is just 30 minutes from the CBD.
- Betty’s Beach, WA – A popular camping location, Betty’s Beach was lovingly named after a woman who frequently visited the beach with her family
- South Port Beach, SA – With its convenient location near the city’s centre, you’ll often find that locals flock to this beach to catch a wave after work
- Wagga Beach, NSW – It’s the inclusion of the inland beach at Wagga Wagga – on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River, hundreds of kilometres from the coast – that’s the biggest surprise on the list. It’s the first time a non-coastal beach has made it onto the list
- Lake Mckenzie, Queensland – Fraser Island’s Lake McKenzie – a freshwater lake known for its dazzling white sand – also earns a mention
- The Basin, WA – With its shallow and super clear waters, it’s not difficult to see why this popular snorkelling location made the list
- Fingal Bay, NSW – A great spot for families, this patrolled beach features a sand spit that links to the mainland of Fingal Island
- Smiths Beach, WA – For powdery white sands, ideal swimming conditions and world-class surfing, there’s WA’s Smiths Beac
- Ned’s Beach, NSW – With its kaleidoscope of fish, corals and pristine waters, Ned’s Beach on Lord Howe Island is an excellent place to spend the day
- Quobba Station Red Bluff, WA – Whether it’s whale watching, shell collecting, or fishing, there’s something for everyone at Red Bluff Beach
- Cossies Beach, Cocos Keeling Islands – This beach was named Australia’s best in 2017, with Farmer stating “It’s as near to perfect as a beach can be.”
- Lake Tyers Beach, Victoria – Just a short drive from Lakes Entrance, this stunning estuary is great for those keen to take a dip and enjoy the outdoor beauty
- Diamond Head, NSW – With its excellent camping and picnic facilities, there’s also the picturesque Diamond Head Beach
- Pondalowie, Yorke Peninsula, SA – This stunning spot located on the southwest tip of the Yorke Peninsula is a top spot for fishing and scuba diving
- Killiecrankie Beach, Flinders Island, TAS – Moody but beautiful, every inch of the 800m stretch is jam-packed with geological wonders
